Things to Do
Tours:
There are many options to hike to the Halawa Valley Waterfalls, my favorite is with Kalani, he owns a beautiful garden on the east end and gives guided tours to the waterfall, ending the day with smoothies of fruits harvested from his garden. The best way to insure that you can do this great hike, is to contact him via email at least a couple weeks before you'd like to go. He does tours on Saturdays. His email is kuleanaworkcenter@yahoo.com. This is a difficult hike, lots of downed trees and rocks to traverse.
Your Halawa cultural adventure will begin when you meet your guide. He will then lead you on foot, through private family owned property where you will witness a traditional Hawaiian protocol. This presentation will give you a better understanding of this sacred place and the host culture.
The Path to hike, or ride to Kalaupapa is currently closed, the only option at the current time is to take a flight to the peninsula. Kalaupap is the location where in the 1870's patients afflicted with Hansen's Disease (Leper) were exiled too.
During Whale season (November - May) Molokai Fish and Dive has great tours. We've also heard that the snorkle tours are great as well.
Humpback whales visit Hawaiian waters each year from November to May with the peak of the season being from January to March.
During whale season, great tours with only very limited number of people per tour.
Requires a 4-wheel drive, challenging driving, but so beautiful on a clear day.

Beaches:
Kepuhi Beach
All Kepuhi Beach condo's have a great view of this beach. We love to relax by the ocean. Swimming near the condo in the winter months is very dangerous. During the summer when the waves are much smaller you can swim on this beach and there's good snorkling.
Take a right on Kaluakoi Road out of the condo and drive less than a mile to the Papahaku Park. Or walk across Kepuhi Beach, take the path behind Kai Aka Rock, cross the road to Kai Aka Rock, continue on, it's about 1/4 mile to the beach. There are generally a set of nice tidepools on the south end of the beach, which is closest to us. Walking the beach is a challenging for us, but beautiful. There's a couple benchs along the way.
Walk down to the pool, turn right and go past the Surfer beach, walk over the ditch and infront of Paniolo Hale condo's, at the top of the hill you'll see the beach.
Take a right on KaluaKoi Rd out of condo and drive about 3 miles to beach access (end of road)
If you want to go on your own, the trail begins at the Hawaiian Home Lands area, located in the east of the preserve. However, going to the beach can be quite a feat in itself, as the path leading to Mo'omomi is a dirt road that is almost impassable unless you drive a four-wheel vehicle. Parking is only allowed in designated areas and since this is a nature preserve, you'll have to stay on the trail.
Kepuhi Bay
Just beyond the pool is the beach the surfers spend alot of time on.
More things to do:
The Oceanside pool at Kepuhi Beach is open! Lounge chairs provided at pool. AMAZING VIEWS OF WAVES!! Great place to watch sunset. Although the view from the condo's is very nice as well.
There are about 29 churches on the island. Many are very Hawaiian and provide a great experience and are truly friendly. The list of churches is in the local paper.
Mail a Coconut Home - Go to the Ho’olehua post office, decorate a coconut and mail it home.
There is a Plumeria farm right before you get into Kaunakakai on the left where you can get fresh leis at a very reasonable price. Call 808-553-3391 or just walk back to the house and knock on the door. They ship all over the world.
Drive to the East End Go all the way to the east end for a day and enjoy the beautiful waterfall and Bay. Start early and stop half way up at the old church Father Damien built and then a little farther up the lunch counter. It is a beautiful drive. Plan the whole day. The drive to the east side is similiar to the Road to Hana on Maui - Watch out for the hairpin turns.
Purdy Natural Macadamia Nut Farm gives free tours. It is located behind the High School in Hoolehua Tours begin on the hour from 10 – 3 pm. Call 808-567-6601.

Take a walk to the left of the condo across the golf course to the 3-mile beach. Go right and see some great views too. Walk the old golf course on complex….great hike. Sunrise and early morning are beautiful. We see deer, turkey, pheasant, and more. Beautiful Peacocks, turkeys and red head cardinals will be your friends at the condo as they run free around the complex.
Take the road up to the Kalaupapa look out where you can get a fantastic view of the historic leaper colony. While up there take a short walk to the left and visit Phallic Rock for a unique experience.
